    Assistant Grounds Staff

Location: Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester, M16 0PX

    Salary: Competitive

    Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent

    About Us

Lancashire Cricket was formed in 1864 and is one of eighteen first-class counties within the domestic structure of England and Wales. Driven by our values, we are here to win, inspire play and make memories with the vision of being the best place to enjoy cricket in the world.

Emirates Old Trafford, home of Lancashire Cricket, is an award-winning world-class stadium and venue. It is recognised as one of the UK’s most prestigious venues for sport, business, leisure and entertainment with a capacity of up to 50,000 people for concerts; 26,000 for international cricket matches; meetings and events spaces for up to 2,000 delegates; a four-star hotel with 250 rooms; and an on-site Caffè Nero. It’s a unique place to build a career where no two days are ever the same!

    The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Grounds Team at Emirates Old Trafford, supporting the preparation and maintenance of high-quality playing and practice surfaces. Working as part of a dedicated team, you will assist in all aspects of cricket groundsmanship, including pitch preparation, outfield care, and general facility upkeep, ensuring surfaces are safe, consistent, and match-ready. The role offers valuable hands-on experience in a professional sporting environment, making it ideal for someone with a passion for outdoor work with support and training provided to develop technical skills.

We recognise that women are underrepresented in grounds and sports turf roles and are committed to addressing this imbalance. We particularly welcome applications from women and those who can bring diverse perspectives to our team. If you are interested in this role but do not meet every requirement, we would still encourage you to apply.

    What You’ll Be Doing

You will support the delivery of high-quality playing surfaces by ensuring the Club’s cricket facilities are maintained and presented to the highest possible standards, assisting with all aspects of ground preparation and renovation including deploying rain covers, mowing, rolling, marking out, and operating pedestrian and ride-on machinery. You will also carry out routine maintenance of equipment, follow and uphold the Club’s Health and Safety policies at all times, and undertake a range of general duties consistent with the preparation and upkeep of cricket grounds.

    What You’ll Bring

    • Ideally, you will have experience within grounds maintenance or a similar environment; however, we welcome applications from individuals with transferable skills and a willingness to learn.
    • A strong commitment to delivering work to the highest possible standards
    • Excellent attention to detail
    • The ability to show initiative and work with self-motivation
    • Proven ability to complete tasks efficiently and to a consistently high standard
    • A flexible approach to working hours, including weekends and some unsociable hours
    • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team
    • A valid UK Driving License
    • Ability and willingness to travel to out-grounds
